The semi-private 18hole Rees Jones design opened in 1988 and in its short history has earned distinction within the region. The 1992 & 93 PGA Tour Qualifying School was held at “The Emerald’ as was the 1990-2000 Curtis Strange Shrine Classic. Golf Weekly magazine has ranked “The Emerald” in the Southeast’s Top 50 Courses. The philosophy behind the creation of the Emerald was to build a course for typical golfers. Jones is credited with designing a course that is able to stand up to the ability of professionals while challenging the amateur golfer as well. Just a short six mile drive west of downtown New Bern, The Emerald Golf Club is on many golfers lists.

Golfing in New Bern can be enjoyed all year round due to mild winter temperatures. Our event will take place during the end of spring when daily low and high temperatures range from 63-82 degrees respectively. With weather ideally suited for golf, this trip will include rounds at three of the areas most renowned designs which are all just a few minutes’ drive from the historic district of downtown New Bern.
The North Carolina Golf Panel rated Carolina Colours as one of the Top 50 Courses Anyone Can Play in North Carolina in April 2016. Designed by renowned architect Bill Love, and opened in 2010, the Carolina Colours Golf Club and the large, undulating, bent-grass greens, provide challenges to all. Fans of golf may recall Bill as the designer chosen for the renovation of the Olympic Country Club prior to the 2012 U.S. Open. Bill Love’s environmental approach to course design allows the natural beauty of the wooded, rolling terrain to be enjoyed by visitors and residents alike. With the holes alongside Brice Creek and those carved from the wetlands, and neighboring Croatan National Forest, Carolina Colours offers variations that occupy the golfer’s interest. A sense of privacy on the course is relayed as most homes are out of view and thankfully, out of play.
Senior Nicklaus Designer, Jim Lipe, takes credit for the 18 hole championship layout just 5 miles from downtown New Bern. Taberna’s private designation does allow for limited outside play and we will take advantage of the opportunity. The sparkling lakes and white sand bunkers are framed by the tree-lined fairways that once were a part of the forest that sat here for ages. Jim Lipe’s eye for classic course elegance is complemented by the clubhouse designed after the famed Castle of Nydegg in Bern, Switzerland. The view from the “wall of windows” inside the clubhouse offer players a perch from which to recall their round after completion.
There are (3) dining establishments within the DoubleTree that offer food and beverage service to guests.
